WHY DO I NEED A PAP TEST?
A Pap smear or Pap test is a test that checks for abnormal changes in cervical cells. This test is used as a screening for cervical cancer. The cervix is located at the bottom of the uterus where it joins the vagina. Cervical cancer often does not present any symptoms until the cancer invades other tissue, therefore, early detection is critical.
While most women have a Pap test every two years beginning at age 21, you should speak with your doctor, who will evaluate your health history, to determine a health care plan that is right for you. If you have a history of abnormal Pap smears, your doctor may wish to test you more often.
