Dr. Selina James is a board-certified internal medicine physician with a special interest in caring for both acute and chronic medical conditions and helping her patients maintain their health over time. Originally from Syracuse, New York, she moved to Raleigh and joined Boylan Medical Associates in 1997 before joining Raleigh Adult Medicine in 2006.
Dr. James earned her bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Cornell University and her medical degree from SUNY Health Sciences Center at Syracuse. She completed her Primary Care Program residency at the University of Rochester. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and is a member of the American College of Physicians and the North Carolina Medical Society.
Her interest in medicine began early. As a sixth grader, Dr. James had a positive experience as an orthopedic patient that sparked her interest in pursuing a career in healthcare. Today, she particularly enjoys building lasting relationships with her patients and using her clinical experience to provide comprehensive, thoughtful care throughout adulthood.
Outside of medicine, Dr. James enjoys spending time with her husband, John, and their two children, both UNC–Chapel Hill graduates. Their daughter graduated in 2016, and their son graduated in 2018. She also enjoys spending time with her first grandchild born in November 2025. An avid sports fan, Dr. James enjoys all sports, with a particular love for UNC basketball.”
